

Born October 8, 1964 in Peoria to David and Rebecca (Collom) Hughes, he married Karen Casey in 1988 in Hannibal, Missouri.
Surviving are his father, David (Linda) Hughes of Pekin; his mother, Rebecca Westhafer of Morton; two sons, Adam Hughes of Peoria and Caleb (Katie Hand) Hughes of Vincennes, Indiana; four grandchildren, Kyler, Adalynn, Aliyah and Athea; one sister, Wendy (Mike) Westley of Washington; two nephews, Anthony (Amy) Bowman and Zachary Gullette; one niece, Abigail Westley and his longtime best friends, Tina (Jim) Vance and Valena Schweigert.
He worked as a horticulturalist for many years both professionally and in his personal life. He received multiple awards for his gardening with both Peoria Park District and Eureka College. David's passion for gardening and his articulate design skills led to his creation of the Japanese garden at Eureka College Library.
He also loved reading large books and building intricately designed Lego structures.
A graveside memorial service and burial of cremated remains will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Farmdale Cemetery in Washington. Cremation will be accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur.
