

Born July 11, 1928 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Tony and Lenora (Brown) York, he married Shirley Tennyson in November 1954 in Pekin. She died November 12, 1968 in Monticello, MN. He later married Melba Sue Woolf on September 22, 1984 in Pekin. She died May 29, 2003 in LaCrosse, WI. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; three infant siblings; one granddaughter, Amanda; one grandson, Steven Robyn York; and one great-grandson, Charles McCune II.
Surviving are two daughters, Vicky (Larry) Sauter of East Peoria and Kim (Paul) Eudaily of South Pekin; one son, Bruce (Donna) York of Princeton, Maine; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three sisters, Fran (Donald) Schott of Pekin, Linda Draves and Nina Eller, both of Harrison of Harrison, Arkansas; and two brothers, Tony (Peggy) York and Danny (Sharon) York, both of Pekin.
Donald served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He had worked for Hiram-Walker in Bartonville for over 20 years until its closing. Following his retirement, he and Melba opened a daycare in Tomah, Wisconsin, which they ran until her death.
A member of Driven Church, First Assembly of God in Pekin, Donald had a mission in life to bring people closer to God. He had taught Sunday school and Christian Pal Talk.
He loved to hunt, fish and take long walks. He also had been a licensed Ham radio operator, using the handle "Candybar".
His memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Rev. David Carrington and Larry Sauter will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral. Burial of cremated remains will be in Spring Lake Cemetery in rural Manito, with military rites accorded by the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team and the Military Funeral Honors Team.
