

Born February 21, 1916 in Gilman to Henry H. and Cora Inez Carnett Hilgert, she married James B. Alexander on January 23, 1935 in Harrisburg. He died January 22, 1942. She then married Robert M. Short on January 5, 1957 in Pekin. He died in July, 1962 in Pekin.
Surviving are one son, James H. (Juanita) Alexander of Morton; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Short worked for Bemis Bag Company in Peoria for 24 years, retiring in November, 1975. Previously, she had worked for Altorfer Brothers in East Peoria for 2 years and at a shipyard in Evansville, Indiana during World War II.
She was a member of the Bemis 20 Year Club and was a Gold Star Wife during World War II.
She enjoyed knitting Afghans, embroidering, and gardening
Local visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m.Tuesday, January 10, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
Her funeralwill be at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2005at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg where visitation will be one hour prior to her funeral. The Rev. Michael Batdorf will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg.
