

Born June 24, 1943 in Manito to Elmer Eugene, Sr. and Katherine (Hilst) Abbott, he married Elizabeth E. “Beth” Heinkel June 17, 1978, in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Steven (Tami) Abbott of Manito; one daughter, Angela Grimm of Pekin; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters, Betty (Melvin) Lipe of Carterville, Mary Camp of North Pekin, Darlene Nichols of Jefferson City, Missouri, Stella (Russell) Leinweber of Mason City and Rozella Abbott of Pekin and one brother, Leonard (Sharon) Abbott of Manito.
He was preceded by his parents and one son, Scott Abbott.
Elmer worked as a plastering contractor and owned and operated Abbott Plastering in Manito for 35 years, retiring in 2003. He also worked in management at Palmers Shopping Center in Manito, Thompson Food Basket, Vogel’s in Pekin and at Nyman’s Market in Creve Coeur.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and spending time with his adoring pets.
Elmer was a 1961 graduate of Forman High School in Manito.
The family would like to thank the staff at Compassus Hospice for taking such good care of Elmer.
His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pekin. Rev. Simeon D. Raddatz will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
