

Born February 9, 1930 in Bloomington to Paul and Bernice (Underhill) Hindenburg, he married Rita Larkin on October 16, 1954 in Bloomington. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Gregory (Teri) Hindenburg of Westfield, Indiana, Bradley (Nancy) Hindenburg of Inola, Oklahoma, Max Hindenburg of Fairfax, Virginia, and Kurt Hindenburg of Beech Grove, Indiana; five daughters, Bernice (Paul) Linden of Pekin, Beth Bohnert of Shelburn, Indiana, Diane McKillop and Julie (Kevin) Dearing, both of Bloomington, and Janet Hindenburg of Dunlap; eighteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley (Ron) DeVary of Mims, Florida.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents.
He worked in the banking industry for over 30 years, retiring in 1995 from First Bank Trust in Terre Haute, Indiana. He had also worked as a realtor and had been a self-employed entrepreneur.
Gene had served in the United States Air Force.
He was an avid golfer, gardener, and handball player. Gene was also a Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan.
Gene was formerly a member of the Terre Haute Lions Club.
He was a wonderful family man and was devoted to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gene was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, where a private visitation and funeral mass will be held. Father Timothy Nolan will officiate. Private burial will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Bloomington.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
