George M Hight

Born September 30, 1927 in Culleoka, Tenn. to Merrit Clemins "Buddy" and Lerla V. (Brown) Hight, he married Ella Marie Luster on July 4, 1949 in Iuka, Miss. She died on September 15, 2005 in Peoria. He also was preceded in death by one brother.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda C. Hight of Bloomington and Georgianna (Vern) Miller-DuPage of Pekin; one son, Larry (Vicky) Hight of Geneva; five grandchildren, George "Nate" DuPage of North Pekin, Charissa S. DuPage, Joseph A. Miller III, Lyndzi Marie Miller and Kayla A. Miller, all of Pekin; one great-granddaughter, Bella R. DuPage and four sisters, Edna Davidson of Columbia, Tenn., Brownie Wise of Chapel Hill, Tenn., Janie Howell of Dixon, Tenn. and Mildred Hill of Union City, Tenn.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

George owned and operated Hight Sales and Service in North Pekin for 31 years. He previously worked as a transmission specialist at Caterpillar, Inc. for 12 years and later for Commonwealth-Edison as the head of security for 10 years at the Powerton Station.

He loved to watch his sons and granddaughters' softball games and was a great cook. He was also a fan of the Bradley Braves, Chicago Bulls, New York Yankees, and Peoria Christian High School basketball team. He loved to hunt, fish and bowl. George raised English Setters. His favorite pastime was listening to his grandson, Joey, playing the drums.

He was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 916 in Pekin, Paul Towne Memorial Amvets Post 169 in North Pekin, and the Frank Nicol Lodge 1170, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons in Creve Coeur.

He was a member of Creve Coeur Christian Church.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2007at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. John E. Plunkett will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2007at the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Glendale Memorial Gardens Chapel of Dreams Mausoleum in Pekin.
