

Born December 28, 1926 in Puxico, Missouri to George Arthur and Ida Belle (Everett) King, she married Clarence Capps on November 24, 1946 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Diane (Dean) Kunz of Normal; two sons, David Capps of South Pekin and Steven Capps of Morton; nine grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant son (Wesley Capps), two infant grandchildren, three sisters, and one brother.
Georgia went to beauty school in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and had a beauty salon in her home for 40 years, retiring in 1983. She was actively involved in her children’s activities, even assisting with polio injections when they were given at schools in the 1950’s. She was a mainstay in her sons scout troop of which Clarence was the scout master.
She was a devoted member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Groveland, where she was part of the Saviors Senior Servants and helped stuff Easter eggs for church sponsored Easter egg hunts. She was involved in many civic organizations in Pekin including Rose Society, Garden Club, and was a lifetime member and past president of the Pekin Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered for many years at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin. She served as a flower judge for the Tazewell County 4-H fair.
Georgia was a progressive learner and avid reader. She obtained her GED as a senior citizen. She loved to crochet, knit, tat and made many gifts for family and friends.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 18040 Unsicker Road in Groveland. The Rev. Dr. Steven E. Hauter will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral.

She will always be remembered for her sweet smile and willingness to serve. The family wishes to thank Dr. LeeHo and her staff along with the Pekin Hospital staff for the loving care they always gave Miss Georgia.
