Iola Shields

She was born Aug. 21, 1912, in Quincy, Ill., to Henry and Okie Gouch Bennett. She married Harland K. Shields on July 10, 1933, in Quincy. He preceded her in death July 14, 1997.  Also preceding her in death was a son, Kent Shields.

Surviving are a son, Harland K. (Carol) Shields of Pekin; four grandchildren, Doug, David, Carrie and Kristin and three great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Preston and Trevor.

Iola was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ottumwa and its Friendship Circle and its former Golden Jubilee Circle King’s Daughters group; P.E.O Chapter HQ in Ottumwa; Ottumwa Chapter 112 Order of Eastern Star; and was a past member of Lionels in Ottumwa.

Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Jon Disburg officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
