

Born on January 30, 1940 in Pekin to James J. and Helen M. (Fisher) McCoy, he married Karon S. Backes on December 5, 1964 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
Surviving are one daughter, Dina Livengood of Kempner, Texas; one son, Scott McCoy of Pekin; seven grandchildren, Chelsea (Adam) Krejci of Edwards, Jessica (Bill) Fargher of Mapleton, Brittany (Ronnie) Konarik of Coppers Cove, Texas, Kayleigh (Dustin) Shuffler of Kempner, Texas, Nicholas (Taylor) McCoy of East Peoria, Logan (Alise Williams) McCoy of East Peoria and Caitlin (Cole Bortell) McCoy of Green Valley; eleven great-grandchildren and one sister, Barbara George of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Alan McCoy on January 22, 2008 and one infant sister, Sharon Ann McCoy.
James proudly served in the United States Air Force, demonstrating his commitment to his country. Following his military service, he was a dedicated member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 1, from which he eventually retired.
In his personal life, James found joy in fishing and riding motorcycles. He was an active former member of both the Peoria Motorcycle Club and the Peoria Sportsman's Club, where he shared his interests with fellow enthusiasts.
His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
