Jerry Layne

Born August 31, 1930 in Pekin to Layton and Nettie Myrtle (Walbert) Layne, he married Ruby F. Spurlock on March 26, 1959 in Peoria.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby of Pekin; three children, Steve (Susan) Layne of Manito, Chris (Peter) Shaw and Gerri Layne, both of Pekin; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy, Nichole, Ronnie, Lynn, Lisa, Brian, Mike, Missy, Angie and Sherry; 15 great-grandchildren, Ryder, Macy, Giana, Garin, Makayla, Cody, Logan, Ariana, Aidan, Cindy, Dustin, Taylor, Joey, Layne and Emily.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kathy Layne; one grandson, Lonnie; one great-granddaughter, Morgan; three brothers and one sister.

Jerry had owned and operated Pekin Auto Storage Pool for 30 years, retiring in 1999. He had also worked as a yard clerk for 15 years for Chicago Northwestern Railroad in South Pekin and GM&O Railroad in Peoria.

An avid Chicago Cubs fan, Jerry enjoyed working on cars.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Steve Weber will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
