

Born on August 13, 1933 in Havana to Robert W. and Josephine (Sealock) Shirley, she married John Barton Gill on September 15, 1952 in Peoria. He died January 20, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one son, John Robert Gill.
Surviving are one daughter, Diane (Marty) Zaayenga of Pekin; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Dan) Hall of Pekin, Christofer (Tara) Zaayenga of Green Valley, Amber (Tim) Irby of Pekin and John "Jake" (Stephanie) Gill of Mackinaw; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Moschel of Morton and one brother, Robert Shirley of Micanopy, Florida.
Joann worked at Pekin Insurance for 32 years, retiring in 1995 from the data processing department.
She was an avid reader and found great joy in crocheting, particularly making baby blankets. She cherished her cat, Buddy, and loved spending time with her family. Joann was also a fan of watching "Jeopardy" on television and cheered for the Chicago Cubs.
She attended Days of Grace Fellowship in Morton. Joann was also a dedicated member of the former Second Reformed Church in Pekin, serving as a past deaconess and Sunday school teacher.
Joann Gill will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the love she shared with those around her.
Her graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Pastor Randy Hall will officiate. A reception will follow the graveside service at Days of Grace Fellowship in Morton. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
