

Born March 1, 1934 in Hollis Township, Peoria County to Joseph and Margaret (Garrett) Heitzman, she married Louis Stauthammer on July 9, 1952 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin. He died October 17, 2007. She also was preceded in death by her parents; her son-in-law, Jerry Tibbs and one brother, Eugene Heitzman.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Tibbs of Topeka and Cheryl (John) Scholebo of Valier; three grandchildren, Jodie (Bjorn) Lindgren of St. Anne, Brian (Erika) Tibbs of Washington and Laura (Paul) Kurtz of Sesser; seven great-grandchildren, Anders (Kate) Lindgren, Emilie Lindgren, Britta Lindgren, Logan Kurtz, Avery Tibbs, Ariah Kurtz and Ryker Kurtz and her companion and dear friend of 18 years, George Hinman of Peoria.
Joann worked for Northern Petrochemical in Mapleton for 24 years, retiring as a supervisor when the plant closed in 1987.
Joann found joy in the simple, meaningful pleasures of life. She loved making crafts for many years and growing garden plants and flowers for family and friends. She was especially proud to have sold produce each summer to Maquet's Rail House in Pekin, sharing the fruits of her labor with the community and bringing her garden’s abundance to others.
Faith and service were important parts of Joann’s life. She was a former member of Second Reformed Church in Pekin, where she served as a longtime Sunday school teacher and was a former Deaconess. When Second Reformed Church closed, Joann became a regular attender at First Baptist Church in Pekin.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Bjorn Lindgren will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
