PEKIN ~ John Everett Barton, Jr., 65, of Pekin, passed away at 5:22 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2007 in Peoria.He was born November 4, 1941 in Peoria to John E. and Bernice (Davis) Barton, Sr. Surviving are one daughter, Stace (Wade) Carlson of Peoria; two sons, Brian (Kathryn) Barton of Appleton, Wisconsin and Shane (Jannica) Barton of Raleigh, North Carolina; six grandchildren; one brother, Gary (Sue) Barton of Havana; and one sister, Rosalie (Art) Hunt of Peoria.John worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 34 years, retiring in 1997 as a supervising accountant.He served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964.John loved traveling with his companion of 16 years, Sharon Bauman. He enjoyed wintering in Fort Walton Beach, Florida with his grandchildren. He was an avid golfer. His funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2007 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral.
