

Born March 24, 1949 in Pekin to Martin and Elizabeth Evans Long, he married Donna Turnpaugh on June 30, 2004 in Manito
Surviving are his wife; two sons, John C. (Heather) Long of Rockford, Michigan and Anthony Long of Hammond, Louisiana; one daughter, Cassandra Long of Pekin; one step-son, Zackary R. Pitts of Dillon; one step-daughter, Charity Pitts-Church of Pekin; five grandchildren, Tanner Long, Ryan Long, Alexis Long, Eathan Long, and Carissa Long; and three step-grandchildren, Gage Pitts-Church, Bryson Pitts-Church, and Jayden Pitts-Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Jim Long.
John served in the U.S. Navy from January 22, 1968 to November 1, 1971.
A Pekin policeman for over 25 years, John had received numerous letters of commendation, along with a Life Saving Award. He was a self defense and weapons instructor, a field training officer, and a member of the Special Response Team.
A member of the Blue Knights (a police motorcycle organization), he was president of its Illinois 1 chapter, and secretary/treasurer of the GLRC, International. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Hismemorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2007at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2007at the funeral home.
