John Short

Born April 4, 1946 in Boss, Missouri to Thomas and Dollie (Beers) Short, he married Sue Wright on March 24, 1971 in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Amy (Earl) Hensley of Pekin and Melissa (Nick) Damron of Brimfield; one son, Todd (Kellie) Short of Pekin; ten grandchildren, Ashley, Justin, Johnathan, Erinn, Tristin, Matthew, Morgan, Ethan, Tyler and Travis; two great-grandchildren, Sophie and Gianna and two brothers, Lavern and twin brother, Jim Short.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Viril, Violet, Goldie, Rose, Elmer, Winford and Ester.

John was Vietnam Veteran serving in the United States Army.

He owned and operated John Shorts Floor Covering in Pekin for over 40 years, retiring in 2015.

John enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and playing golf. He also enjoyed listening to music, especially classic hits by Bob Segar.

His graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2019 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Pastor Lance Zehr will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Military rites will be provided by the United States Army and Sangamon County Interveterans Detail.
