

Born November 21, 1964 in Peoria to Robert William and Shirley Ann (Gunzenheiser) McCready, he married Wendy Lee Taylor on December 31, 1994 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother of Chillicothe; two sons, Kyle (Baeleigh) McCready of Edwards and Tyler (Jalisa) McCready of Galesburg; one daughter, Jennifer (Jessy) Bassett of Mapleton; nine grandchildren, Dirk, Otto, Ruex, Isabella, Maxx, Jemma, Jessy, Charlie and Sam; one brother, James Robert (Lisa) McCready of Chillicothe; one sister, Becky (Brent) Cook of Granite City; his mother-in-law, Edie Taylor of Pekin; a sister-in-law, Sandra Taylor of Minnesota and seven nieces and nephews, Nicholas, Cameron, Noah, Jacob, Jordyn and Madeleine. He is also survived by his Yorkie, Ajay, which was his best friend.
He was preceded in death by his father; one son, Alan James Vaughn and his father-in-law, James Taylor.
A 1983 graduate of Illinois Valley Community High School, Kevin then graduated in Nashville, Tennessee as a Diesel Tech. Kevin was a Diesel Tech for GROWMARK at their Tank and Truck Center for many years, last working on Thursday.
Kevin enjoyed camping, fishing, and deer hunting. He also enjoyed riding his side-by-side, working on cars, and drinking a beer with friends. Spending time with family was most important to him.
He was a member of the Knox County Conservation Sportsman’s Club. Kevin also dedicated himself to helping with his wife’s initiative, Fight the Fight Against Addiction.
A visitation celebrating Kevin's life will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation with inurnment at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin at a later date. No funeral service is planned.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Knox County Conservation Sportsman’s Club or to the Alzheimer’s Association out of respect for other close family members who had a journey with Alzheimer’s.
