

Born September 22, 1916 in Pekin to Harley R. and Esther Cameron (Koch) Dunnington, she married Creston A. Fluegel, Sr. on August 17, 1940 in Washington, IL. He died in February of 1977. She later married William H. Holman on July 26, 1986 in Pekin. He died March 23, 2005 in Pekin.
Surviving are one son, Cres (Sue) Fluegel of Dunlap; one daughter, Cameron Jean Godfrey of North Aurora; one step-son, William K. Holman of Peoria; four grandchildren, Janet L. (Joe Cornell) Godfrey of San Jose, CA, Susan G. Mantel of Yorkville, Brett D. (Thao Chu) Fluegel of Portland, OR and Brandon G. (Heather) Fluegel of Chicago; two step-grandchildren, Kristen E. Holman and William M. Holman, both of Chicago; three great-grandchildren, Daniel Mantel, Lauren Mantel and Hudson Fluegel and one sister, Jean E. Morris of Pekin. She also leaves her niece, Sally Morris of Pekin.
A graduate of Washington Community High School, she was a 1958 graduate of Illinois State University with a degree in Education. She earned her Master’s in Guidance and Counseling in 1968.
Mrs. Holman was a teacher for Pekin Public Schools District 108 for 36 years, retiring in 1983 as a mathematics teacher at Edison Jr. High School. She began her teaching career in Flanagan, where she taught two years. She was a member of the Tazewell County Retired Teachers Association and the Illinois Retired Teacher’s Association.
An avid bridge player, Mrs. Holman was a member of the American Contract Bridge League. She also was a member of the Pekin Hospital League and a former member of the American Association of University Women and Pekin YWCA, of which she was a former board member. She also formerly served on the board of Tazewell County School Employees Credit Union. Mrs. Holman had served for several years on the Scholarship Committee of the Rotary Club of Pekin.
She was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin.
Her memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Private burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
