The many memories of Aunt Mary and Aunt Ruby will always be in my mind. 

Welcome.  The privilege has been bestowed upon me to share, talk and pay tribute to our Grandmother, Mary Parris.

Born in 1915, our Grandmother entered into a life and journey that brought much joy, appyness, strength and sorrow to those who knew her best.  For those of us who aren't familiar with the world the way it was in 1915, let me share with you a couple small newsreels:  Woodrow Wilson was the 28th President elected for office, Thomas R. Marshall was the Vice PResident.  There have been 15 Presidents elected since the birth of our Grandmother.  Albert Einstein develops the Theory of Relativity: (for those who are left wondering...) his theory alters the view of gravity proposed by Sir Isaac Newton, which in 1915 was more than two centuries ago.  The US Coast Guard was founded, and The Lusitania had been sunk.  It is said, if you were born in 1915, you have blinked at least 395,576,637 times and have eaten 87,383 meals...now there's something to think about!

Mary was ONE in a million Grandmothers out there, but she was OUR Grandmother, and there's no comparison to the love and joy she brought to each one of us.  A Mother of three, a Grandmother of ten, a Great-Grandmother of twenty-four, and a Great-Great-Grandmother to twelve.  It's hard to believe with these credentials she was only 91 years young!

Over the last week and a half, I had the opportunity to spend some quality time with my Grandmother, Mother, Siblings, Cousins, and Friends and reflect on some of the wonderful traits which made her special and unique to each one of us.  Though it would be too long to tell what each individual remembers best about our Grandmother and Friend, there are a few things that come to mind that will forever hold true in our hearts every time we take a moment to remember.

Aggravation, a game played on a homemade board with colorful marbles, that has now been passed to the next generation.  Potato Chips, Salted Mixed Nuts, Uno, Skip-Bo, Rummy, Hershey Candy Bars(my personal favorite!), Juicy Fruit and Big Red Gum, The frozen glazed donuts you put in the oven and warm up, White Castle Hamburgers, Markos Fish Sandwiches, Spaghetti & Meatballs with Bread & Butter, Fried Chicken w/ Mashed Potatoes and Milk Gravy, Pork chosp with Fried Potatoes and Applesauce, Weather Vane Ice Cream, and who could forget the endless supply of Fruit Loops, Apple Jacks and Frosted Flakes cereal that were always in the cabinet.  This is only a few of the wonderful memories we've made.

Our Grandmother was a simple individual.  She did not need the finest things in life, just the finest life filled with lots of things, primarily her family.

I loved telling the story to my children about when my brother, sister and I were younger and we would "raz" Grandma about her pronunciation of certain words.  The ones that always got us giggling the hardest was "facet", "worsh", "zink", and "skoo".  It became a fun little line of ours to say to Grandma that we need to "Go to the zink, turn on the facet, worsh our hands before going to skoo."  She would laugh just the same.

One of my favorite memories was of my Mom telling friends that at 75 years old, my Grandma went back to school, and simply for the fact, once my grandfather passed away, she wanted the ability to write and sign checks, so she went back to school to learn to do so.

We all hold many precious memories of the impact she made in our lives, and the last few days, we've all had time to reflect on what holds true to our hearts...the love, compassion, and generosity she shared with us all.

She was a Daughter, a Wife, a Mother, a Friend, a Grandmother and most of all, she was the glue and foundation that kept this family together.

To Lavern, Shirley & Claudine:  Thank You for giving us kids the precious gift of our Grandmother.  She will forever hold a special place in each of our hearts.


Although I only knew her for a short time, Mary made a lasting impression on me. From the first time I met her and up until her passing, she always found a way to make me smile. My thoughts and prayers are now with her family. God bless

Grandma, I recall many happy times that centered around an aggravation board or a card game. I truely enjoyed those times. 

I will always remember your strength and courage. Mighty Mary is now at rest but not forgotten. 

You were always good to everyone. May you rest in peace forever.
