Mary K Sherwood

Born on March 13, 1935 to William and Eva (Hubbell) Farling, she married Robert James Sherwood on March 26, 1955 in Henry. He died April 15, 2015 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Darah L. Sherwood; four siblings, Inez Moseley, Ruth Tyler, Bobby Farling and Ernest Farling.

Surviving are one daughter, Teresa Sherwood of North Pekin; one son, David (Jane) Sherwood of Washington; three grandchildren, Amanda Gard of Pekin, Dakota Sherwood of Washington and Madison (Jeff) Fuller of Las Vegas; two great-grandchildren, Nicolas Gard of Seattle, Washington and Gianna Beal of Pekin; and one more great-grandchild on the way, Ivy Jo Fuller and many nieces and nephews.

Mary worked as a commercial janitor for First Assembly of God in Peoria for over 26 years. She additionally would clean for several other local banks and businesses.

She also served for over 40 years as a music therapist, she played music in nursing homes, assisted living centers, hospitals and churches. She also played music for the Tiny Tot’s Daycare Center.

Mary loved music and playing the piano. She was an excellent host, cook and loved having people over for dinner and musical get-togethers at her home. She also had a talent for making cakes and made a variety of cakes for weddings, birthdays and other events. Mary also hosted a widows group at her home for Bible studies, music and food.

She was a member of the Pekin First Church of the Nazarene.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2024 at the Pekin First Church of the Nazarene. Pastor W. Lloyd Brock will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2024 at the church. Additional visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
