

Born September 24, 1937 in Peoria to Raymond and Emma Hyde, he married Joan Patricia Kalafut on March 15, 1958 in Chicago. She died February 1, 2008 in Creve Coeur. He also was preceded in death by one son, Robert; one granddaughter; and six brothers and sisters.
Surviving are five daughters, Debra Hyde, Realene (Robert C.) Lowande and Janelle Poole, all of Creve Coeur, Joanne Hyde and Betty J. Edwards, both of East Peoria; one son, Melvin Lee (Chris) Hyde, Jr. of Morton; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six sisters, Wilma Sue Miller, Mary Pruitt, Emma Hyde, and Lola Martinez, all of Peoria, Opal Keen of Lewistown and Peggy Sloan of St. Louis; and three brothers, Ernie Hyde and Raymond Hyde, both of Peoria and John Hyde of Florida.
Melvin worked as an asphalt layer for City Coal & Asphalt in Pekin for 27 years.
He was a member of the Amvets Post #64 in Peoria.
Cremation will be accorded. There will be no visitation or funeral. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur is in charge of arrangements.
