Melvin L Reed

Born January 25, 1925 in Lovington to Joseph G. and Alma J. (McVicker) Reed, he married Glenda M. Wyman on July 29, 1971 in Canton. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Paula Jeane (Sam) Sredanovich of Lake Elsinore, CA; two sons, Stephen Eugene (Karen) Reed of Santa Marie, CA and Bradley John (Laurie) Reed of Hemet, CA; one step-daughter, Judy C. (Eugene) Phillips of Spring City, IN; three step-sons, James “Rich” Brawner of Marquette Heights; John B. (Cheryl) Brawner, Jr. of Eureka and Terryl L. (Kathy) Brawner of Pekin; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Viola J. Wolfer of Pekin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepson; one brother; and one sister.

Melvin served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He worked for the United States Postal Service for 36 years, retiring in 1980 as a window clerk.

Melvin was a member of First Baptist Church of Marquette Heights.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Chris Bigger will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
