

She was born March 4, 1925 in Pekin to Wayne George and Lela Marie (Whited) Dille. Her parents preceded her in death.
Surviving are one sister, Marjorie J. Dille of Pekin; an aunt, Grace Dille of Fairfield, IA and several cousins. She also leaves a dear friend, Margaret L. Hauter of Pekin.
She was a 1947 graduate of MacMurray College in Jacksonville and later attended Bradley University, the University of Wyoming and earned her teaching certificate from Illinois State University.
Miss Dille was a Language Arts Teacher at Edison Intermediate School for Pekin Public Schools District 108 for 26 years, retiring in 1983. She previously worked 8 years for the Illinois Public Aid Commission in Pekin.
Miss Dille was a member of the Tazewell County Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma, an international teachers' sorority. She also was a member of Chapter A.S of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and a charter member of the American Association of University Women. In 1981, Miss Dille was presented with the Pekin Altrusa Club’s Community Service Award. She served as a member of the Pekin Library Board of Directors for 30 years and served as a longtime liaison between the board and the Friends of the Library group. Miss Dille participated in the planning and building of the new library. She had chaired numerous membership drives for the Pekin Community Concerts and Lakeview Museum in Peoria. She also volunteered for numerous fundraising drives for the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association. Miss Dille was a former member of the Pekin YWCA Board of Directors. In 1995, Mayor Tebben signed a proclamation establishing a special day in her honor, Vera Dille Day.
Miss Dille was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin.
Miss Dille will be fondly remembered by her students with much love and respect for her outstanding teaching.
Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2011 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Dr. Steven E. Hauter of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Groveland will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
