

Born April 13, 1915 in Cane Valley, Kentucky to William Joseph and Mary Beth (Caffey) Karnes, she married Ralph Franklin Evans on January 17, 1945 in Norfolk, Virginia. He died October 6, 1997 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two daughters (Allyson Evans and Shirley Reyburn), two grandsons (Glenn Barnhart and Ralph McCarty), four brothers, and one sister.
Surviving are two daughters, Joyce (Ray) Barnhart and Linda (Roland) Hagmann, both of Pekin; six grandchildren, Shelley Chism, Duval Barnhart, and Rhonda (Kevin) Haley, all of Pekin, Jocelyn (Mikel) Koetter and Travis Barnhart, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Sherrie (Shawn) Keller of North Pekin; granddaughter-in-law, Susan Barnhart of Pekin; ten great-grandchildren, Brent Chism, Christian (Candy) Chism, Marissa Haley, Kevin Haley, and Madissen Haley, all of Pekin, Justin Barnhart, Victoria Barnhart, and Travis Barnhart, all of Indianapolis, Indiana, Katie (Aaron) Ketchum of Springfield, Joshua Barnhart of Madison, Wisconsin; and nine great-great-grandchildren, Trey, Persphanie, Ronlee, Addison, Ariel, and Christian Chism, Taylor and Calvin Barnhart, and Aidan Ketchum. She also leaves behind great caregivers, Cher Pomrenke and Emma Harris.
A homemaker, Myrtle enjoyed receiving visitors and collecting dolls. She was an Elvis fan and loved watching QVC.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2007at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before the funeral. The Rev. Paul Isom will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.
