

Born September 25, 1932 in Mansfield, AR to William J. and Amy C. (Boyd) Neisler, he married Catherine Nevitt on June 26, 1955 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Mike (Tina) Neisler of Mapleton, Gary Neisler of East Peoria; four grandchildren, Justin, Corey, Emi and Ellie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one sister.
Nelson had served his country in the United States Air Force as a hydraulic mechanic during the Korean War.
He had worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 28 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Twin Oaks Missionary Baptist Church in East Peoria.
He enjoyed tinkering and working on things. He took pride in bringing items home that someone had given up on, fixing and returning them to the owners in working condition. He also enjoyed passing out candy to the youth at his church, earning him the name “Candy Man”.
According to Nelson’s wishes, there will be no services or visitation. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at a later date at his church. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur has been entrusted with arrangements.
