

EAST PEORIA ~ Nina Lou Day, 87, of East Peoria, formerly of Pekin and Peoria, passed away at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria. She suffered a stroke on Memorial Day and never recovered.
Born September 17, 1926 in Gorham to Cooney and Stella (Porter) Bryan, she married Wayne Abbadusky in August, 1955. He died in 1961. She later married Lloyd Day on May 2, 1962 in Galesburg. He died June 6, 1979 in Peoria.
Surviving are one daughter, Donna K. (Steve) Draher of Pekin; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Darren) Cunningham of East Peoria and Krystal (Jasen) Grider of Pekin; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Merwin Bryan of Herrin; three sisters, Virginia (Harold) Frazier of Sunnyland, Gail Cravens of Herrin and Leona Williams of Massachusetts; and one sister-in-law, Ethel Bowton of Canton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and one brother.
Nina first worked for Princess Peggy in Peoria, then as a beautician for 15 years out of her own home and later for Beetlers Hair Salon in Peoria. She then worked as a cook for a fraternity at Bradley University, then for the Pekin YWCA and finally for the priests at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
Nina was a former member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria.
Nina was a member of the Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1232 Ladies Auxiliary in Pekin and a member of Pekin Women of the Moose Chapter 673. She enjoyed playing Bingo.
Her graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Worthen Cemetery in Murphysboro. Pastor Merle Mackie will officiate. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
