Opal Hill

Born August 28, 1935 in Chester to John S. and Rosa (Tinker) Canady, she married George R. Hill, Sr. on June 5, 1954 in Chester. He survives.

Also surviving are one son, George R. (Susan) Hill, Jr. of Pekin; one daughter, Amy Jo Smith of Pekin; three grandchildren, Nicole (Tony) Mountjoy of Morton, George R. Hill, III of Pekin, and Charles Smith of Fort Collins, Colorado; two great-grandchildren, Adelynn and Easton; and one brother, Bert Canady of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, and five brothers.

Opal was a beautician for over 50 years and owned and operated Opal’s Hair Salon

She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Pekin.

Opal had a very spunky personality, had a great sense of humor, and never knew a stranger. She loved her family and they meant the world to her. She also loved to shop.

Her funeral will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Bethel Baptist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Steve Rowell, Sr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 2720 Broadway Road, Pekin, IL 61554.
