

Born February 13, 1951, in Fort Benning, Georgia to Nathan and Florence (Rutter) Thompson, he married Janet Filyaw on April 13, 1974, in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sarah (Zach) Pennell of Pekin and Christine Foil of Pekin and five grandchildren, Pacey Hill, Taylor Foil, Landon Hill, Lillie Pennell and Wyatt Pennell.
He was preceded by his parents; two brothers, Robert Thompson and Gerald Thompson; one half-brother, Dale Zannacker and one half-sister, Dawn Powell.
Rick was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard for six years, from 1969 to 1975.
A family man, he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed being outdoors, including fishing and all types of racing.
Rick worked as a production operator at PMP Fermentation for 18 years, retiring in 2008.
He was a member of Pekin First Nazarene Church.
His memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Cheryl Sherwood will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. the evening prior. Burial will follow the service at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Cremation has been accorded.
