

Born March 15, 1919 in Trafalgar, Indiana to Albert and Rachel (Garrison) Thompson, he married Dortha Ellen Sisson on April 30, 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She died October 9, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two granddaughters; three brothers; and three sisters.
Surviving are three sons, Nolan Keith Thompson of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Leslie Paul (Mary) Thompson of East Peoria and John David (Pattie) Thompson of Creve Coeur; two daughters, Barbara L. Carroll of Springfield, Missouri and Ellen Marie (James) Reimer of Lexington; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he served from March 31, 1944 to February 4, 1946. He attained the rank of Seaman First Class.
Paul worked as a mechanic at Rossetter Ford in Peoria for 15 years, retiring in March 1980.
He attended Prairieview Mennonite Church in rural Gridley. He was a former member of CrossPoint Church in East Peoria and the Creve Coeur Lions Club.
Paul enjoyed ministering at area nursing homes.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2014 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. Pastor Tom Pisano will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Navy and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
