

PEKIN ~ Phyllis Marie Beer, 77, of 1302 Lincoln passed away at 11:50 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2009 at Timbercreek Rehab and Health Care in Pekin. Born July 5, 1932 in Stanwood, Iowa to Paul and Dora (Yeater) Kenney, she married Daryl Wayne Beer on May 25, 1952 in Bennett, Iowa. He died on November 30, 2007 in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Rebecca O’Connell on April 2, 2005 in Pekin; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.
Surviving are 1 son, James S. Beer of Ft. Worth, Texas; 1 granddaughter, Eleonore (Vincent) Nichols of Pekin; 2 brothers, Elmer Kenney of Davenport, Iowa and Leland Kenney of Iowa City, Iowa; and 1 sister, Pauline Campbell of Macon, Missouri.
She formerly worked for Quaker Oats Company in Chicago at corporate as a clerk in military sales and then as a supervisor. She later worked as a church secretary at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Rockford for 10 years.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pekin, where she was a former financial secretary. She also had served as a substitute church secretary and as a member of the flower committee. She was a member, past-president and former secretary of the Women’s Guild of the church.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pekin. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, October 19, 2009 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, and from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m., Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 711 Court Street, Pekin, IL 61554 or to Good Shepherd Lutheran School, 333 State Street, Pekin, IL 61554 or to Tazewell Animal Protective Society, 100 TAPS Lane, Pekin, IL 61554.
