A community of friends and family is mourning the death of Rebecca Jane Bush (Herring) on Friday, March 6, 2026. She was born December 22, 1941, in Peoria, Illinois, to Donald and Mildred Herring of Creve Coeur.
Many knew Becky from her career in the Dunlap School District, her lifelong, dedicated membership at Creve Coeur Christian Church, as Don and Mildred’s daughter, or Kristal and Ann’s mom.
For more than 30 years, she served as secretary at Dunlap Grade School and Banner Grade School, but she was more than a secretary. She was a nurse, counselor, greeter, office clerk, bus driver, cook and custodian. You could not go anywhere that you did not meet a parent, student or coworker who was touched by Becky’s warmth and caring.
Like her parents before her, she served Creve Coeur Christian Church with her prayers, her presence, her gifts, her service, and her witness for her entire life. Her circle of church friends and their many activities - whether it was Sunday Culvers’ brunch, Snack Pack, Food Bank, church dinners, or single ladies’ breakfast - were the highlights of her week.
Becky was lucky to have a core group of wonderful women, some of whom she met in kindergarten, and saw multiple times a week until very recently. They are so loved and such an important part of Becky’s life, along with all the new friendships from the last couple of years at Liberty Village in Pekin. If Becky knew you, she loved you. If you knew Becky, you loved her.
We appreciate Andrew and Becca for making Becky’s bittersweet move from Dunlap to Pekin seamless, and we are so comforted to know the house in Dunlap will create new memories for a growing family.
Even though her passing was sudden, we are grateful that she was in no pain and surrounded by her family and lifelong friends at the precious moment of her passing.
We know that she was welcomed by her beloved parents, Mildred and Don, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who have gone before her, and an endless supply of library books, word search puzzles and sweet tea. And just as she did here, she will soon busy herself organizing pantries, labeling files, and greeting every stranger with a smile and a hug.
She is in a better place to keep an eye on her daughters, Kristal Adkisson (David) and Ann Romine (Bryon), and the grandchildren she treasured, Tyler Adkisson, John Adkisson and Sara Buckle, and Sam, Jake, and Abigail Romine.
In keeping with Becky’s wishes there will be no services. Cremation Rites have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes and Crematory in Pekin.
If you would like, please consider a donation to the Food Bank or Snack Pack missions at Creve Coeur Christian Church.
