

PEKIN ~ Richard Carl "Dick" Holmes, 75, of 312 Buena Vista, #13, passed away at 12:35 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2007 at Timbercreek Rehab and Health Care in Pekin. He was formerly of 1302 Charlotte Street in Pekin.
Born June 19, 1932 in Pekin to Paul and Nettie (McNeal) Holmes, he married Linda Gail Hamm McDowell on February 22, 1990 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are a special son, Luke McDowell and his two cats, Snickers and Fluffs of Pekin; two brothers, Paul Holmes and Donnie Holmes, both of Pekin; one sister, Phyllis Reiling of Manito; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother (Robert Holmes), and two sisters (Mildred Duley and Alma McCutcheon).
A United States Army veteran of the Korean War, he served from February 15, 1952 to September 30, 1953. He attained the rank of Corporal. He also served in the Army National Guard of Illinois from January 24, 1951 to February 14, 1952 and October 1, 1953 to January 23, 1954.
Dick worked for Central Illinois Light Company for 37 years, retiring February 22, 1990 from the display department. Following his retirement, he enjoyed continuing his artwork, making banners and cards for his friends. Dick enjoyed his family.
He was a life member of the American Legion in Peoria and the AMVETS in Peoria. Dick volunteered for both the American Heart Association and American Red Cross, and received several awards for his contributions.
His memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2007at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be 30 minutes before. The Rev. Ronald Little will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
