

Born June 12, 1929 in Creston, Iowa, she was the daughter of Bernard and Nada (Hower) Bennett. She married Jesse Shock on October 8, 1950 in Omaha, Nebraska. He died January 26, 2003 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter-in-law, Melissa Shock.
Surviving are three sons, Bill (Mary Ellen) Shock of Pekin, Jeff Shock of Castle Rock, Colorado and John (Katherine) Shock of Sugar Land, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jay (Shannon) Shock of Pekin, Dr. Ryan (Laura) Shock of Austin, Texas, Travis (Molly) Shock of Pekin, Matthew (Mindy) Shock of Phoenix, Arizona, Andrew (Carli) Shock of Denver, Colorado, Adam (Renee) Shock of San Diego, California, Jonathon Shock of Detroit, Michigan and Alexandra (Jonathon) Huff of Everett, Washington; thirteen great-grandchildren, Chaylyn, Kayden, Rylin, Bennett, Grayson, Parker, Adler, Anderson, Logan, Norah, Cade, Charlotte, and Jonah and one sister, Rebecca Huber of Creston, Iowa.
A graduate of Nebraska Methodist College of Nursing, Roberta then worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and did private duty nursing for a Cedar Rapids attorney. Upon moving to Pekin, Roberta worked as a surgical nurse at Pekin Hospital and was instrumental in establishing an operating room technician program at Illinois Central College. She also supported her husband and worked with the Shock Agency in Pekin. Upon moving to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, when her husband retired, Roberta continued working and training Home Health Nurses for the State of Arkansas. She also enjoyed helping run free medical clinics while in Arkansas.
She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin. Roberta was active in Bible studies through the years, enjoyed playing bridge and golfing. She also was active with the League of Women Voters.
Her celebration of life memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2022 at First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin. David Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service Friday at the church. Private inurnment will be in Lakeside Mausoleum. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is assisting the family with the arrangements.
