

Born February 8, 1933 in St. Louis, MO to Herbert F. and Florence C. (Mattlage) Robinson, she married Ivan C. Berg on June 6, 1953 in Bloomington. He survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Mark (Julie) Berg of Manito, Paul (Lori) Berg of Wentzville, MO, and I. Christopher (Dana) Berg of Bloomington, IN; seven grandchildren, Jamie Berg, Michael Berg, Jennifer Berg, Jill Berg, Steven Berg, Sean Berg, and Scott Berg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, Steven Berg; two brothers, Herb Robinson and Roland Robinson; and one sister, Dorothy Wells.
Shirley was raised in Bloomington and graduated from Bloomington High School in 1950.
A homemaker, Shirley worked as a legal secretary from 1950 to 1953 in Bloomington and from 1953 to 1955 in Peoria. After raising her family, she worked for H & R Block during tax season from 1987 to 1995.
Shirley was a devoted and faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin, where she was a Stephen Ministry Leader and a Stephen Minister. She had served and chaired numerous committees of the church. She was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years including the Crusaders class. She also led a Bible study at the Grand Victorian in Pekin. She was a member of the YWCA Y Reserves and was a former YWCA Board member. She was the longtime ticket chairperson for the Pekin Civic Chorus.
In addition to her faith, her family was very important to her. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was a St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball fan.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Pekin. The Rev. James McClarey and Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, and also from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
