I always shared that the most important letter in WCHS is C - Community.  Mr. Zimmerman was a servant leader who truly embodied Community.  During my time at WCHS, he was a leader who made students his top priority.  Humble, selfless, caring, authentic, insightful, patient, and ethical.  In addition to his service to the Washington Community, he was a leader in the Business Official community in Central Illinois. His impact on serving others extends well beyond his family and the Washington Community. To me, he was one of the best mentors I've had throughout my career.  I was blessed to work for and alongside Mr. Zimmerman and will keep Pat and the entire Zimmerman family in my prayers. "Community"

Had the opportunity to work with Steve for 40 years at Washington Community High School.  We taught business classes next to each other and then worked in administration later.  He was one that I could classify as cool, calm, and collected or better yet in control.  I always felt there was nothing that Steve couldn't do.  He was very talented in the areas that he was compassionate about.  He influenced many students over the years and seemingly did it with ease.  Steve will be greatly missed because of the love that he had for family, for his religion, and for the friends he had.  What a great example to all.  My condolences to Pat and his children.

Steve and I taught together at Washington High for more than 30 years during which time we had many laughs and good memories.
I particularly enjoyed our many fishing excursions and golf outings.
Steve was a great friend as well as a true professional, and he will be greatly missed.

Washington District 50 Schools mourns the loss of a true champion for education. Mr. Zimmerman wasn't just an administrator; he was a mentor and a friend to many over his 40 plus years of service to WCHS. While we knew him as a leader, we know his greatest pride was his family. We send our heartfelt prayers to his wife, children, and grandchildren as we honor the memory of a life exceptionally well-lived.

I will never forget the year Steve directed the Alice in Wonderland contest play all the way to the state finals. I was the bus river for cast and set to each performance. We had a wonderful cast and crew and competed with schools that have huge theater programs. The final performance was at Manual Hugh school because Millikin University was doing construction on their theater. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and Steve showed us how a great director can mold a cast and create a theater family at the same time. Miss you Steve. Dr. John Strauch

Our condolences go out to Steve's family. I was most fortunate to work with Steve at WCHS for the better portion of 10 year's. He served as the Business Mgr. when I was Superintendent. Steve was highly skilled in his job duties and always demonstrated a genuine concern for students and staff.
We were also able to enjoy many pheasant hunts over the year's with our Labrador Retrievers that were special occasions.

I have many memories over the many years at Washington High School.  I am sure that Steve will be remembered and missed by many students and teachers. I can still hear his laugh..

Steve was a great person who Cindy and I had the pleasure of working with for many years at Washington High School.  He had a positive impact on anyone he came into contact with.  Steve  will be missed.  Our condolences to his family.

I am so sorry for your loss.  We attended Calvary Baptist Church as children and I knew his family well! 
A life well-lived! He will be remembered as a wonderful person who positively affected many lives!!

Steve and Pat were friends for a long time back in the Calvary Baptist Church days.
They were a very active couple and always had their family first. He would share his hunting stories. He was a great man and we enjoyed going to his plays and musical. Please accept our prayers and sympathy during your time of loss.

I met Steve about 4 years ago when I joined the Tuesday golf group that Steve belonged.   The past two years I have gone fishing with him up in Canada.   We called him the fish whisperer as he caught fish like no one else I had ever fished with before.   The trips to and from Canada were fascinating to me as he told me about his travels around the world and the different events he would do with his family.   My prayers are with all of Steve's family.      May God bring you comfort during this time of sorrow.

Steve and I finally got together to do a duck hunt in the fall of 2025. What a great memory of us together in  the blind. We talked about our families as we waited for ducks to come in. Golden moments of us sharing stories of people who came before us and after. Steve loved sharing stories of his grand children, he was so proud of them and his daughters. I wish I could have spent more time with him. To the direct  family of Steve, I wish everyone peace.

We will always remember our golf games with Steve and Pat.  We had some good lunches together discussing our love for travel.  The news of his passing was such a shock that is still hard to believe.  Our hearts go out to Pat and his entire family.  Steve was such a nice person who may now be gone but will never be forgotten ❤️

Prayers and God's peace to the entire Zimmerman family. I had the pleasure of getting to know Steve over the last few years playing golf. He was a very kind man and true gentleman. I will miss Steve but will certainly enjoy the memories of him.

Sending your family so much love and peace. He was such an amazing husband, father, and grandfather who positively impacted the lives of so many people.
