

PEKIN ~ Vernon Cecil Bennett, 66, of Pekin, passed away at 8 a.m., Friday, November 2, 2012 at his home.
Born May 30, 1946 in Carruthersville, Missouri to Virgil P. and Nettie Lillian (Henson) Bennett, he was married to Valorie White in Peoria. He later married Linda Shanklin.
Surviving are 1 son, Vernon Bennett, II of Peoria; 2 daughters, Sherry and Michelle Bennett, both of Peoria; 2 grandchildren, Bryson and Mia Bennett, both of Peoria; ; 4 brothers, Robert (Karen) Bennett of Peoria, Joe Bennett of Williamsfield, Chuck “Bill” (Marta) Bennett of Princeville and his” brother” and best friend, Raymond White of Pekin; step-mother, Vonnie Bennett of South Pekin; 2 step-brothers, Danny (Shelly) Smith of Kewanee, and David Smith of Williamsfield; and 2 step-sisters, Tammy (Jody) Stevens of Williamsfield, and Tina Hogsett, of Hanna City.
Vernon was preceded in death by his his parents.
He served with the U.S. Army in Viet Nam
For many years, Vernon worked in the auto body repair industry as a painter.
Cremation will be accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be he from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, November 16th in the community room at Court Place apartments, 230 Court St. in Pekin.
