

Born October 23, 1920 in Hummelstown, PA to Walter M. and Myra (Nye) Fox, he married Dorothy E. Neavear on April 17, 1949 in Lancaster, PA. She preceded him in death on August 17, 2003.
He also was preceded in death by five sisters, Almeda, Ruth, Glenda, Erma and Betty.
Walter is survived by eleven nieces and nephews.
Walter was a plumber, working out of the Plumbers Union Local 63 in East Peoria for thirty years, retiring in 1982.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1945, attaining the rank of T4. He participated in the Normandy Invasion, the Ardennes Campaign, the Battle of the Bulge, and the liberation of Camp Dora concentration camp, Nordhausen, Germany in May, 1945.
Walter and Dorothy loved to travel and collaborated together to produce the Fox Family Genealogy.
An accomplished bowler, spanning sixty years, he was inducted into the Greater Peoria Bowling Hall of Fame in 1979. He also enjoyed playing golf.
Walter was a member of the American Legion Post 6417 Palmyra Memorial Post in Palmyra, PA, Veterans of Foreign Wars Quigley-Baum, Inc. PA Post 72 in Palmyra, PA and the International Order of Forresters.
Walter was a member at St. John’s (Sand Prairie) Lutheran Church in rural Green Valley, where his funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2011. The Rev. Thomas R. Wenndt will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Military honors will be provided by the U.S Army and the Tazewell Military Rites Team. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
