Born September 6, 1932 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee to Monroe and Pauline (Saulsbury) Flora, she married Lavern McBride on April 30, 1950 in Cornith, Mississppi. He died January 14, 2014 in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Chad McBride, one great-grandson, Ryean; two brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are one son, William McBride of Pekin; two daughters, Shannon (Michael) Klich of Colorado Springs and Loni Jo (Jimmy) McElya of Creve Coeur; four grandchildren, Laura Hulsey of Wyoming, Keith Merritt of South Pekin, Jennifer Klich of Denver, Colorado and Matthew (Jennifer) Klich of Parker, Colorado; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Glen (Jeanette) Flora of Moody, Texas and two sisters, Helen (Ron) Bowman and Patricia (Don) Krueger, both of Metropolis.
Sue was a psychiatric nurse at the Peoria State Hospital in Bartonville for 10 years until its closing in 1973.
She enjoyed camping and was a former member of the Road Runners Group. She and her husband enjoyed wintering in Texas for more than 10 years.
She was a former member of Christ Followers Church in Groveland.
Private graveside services will be held in Woodrow Cemetery in rural Pekin. There will also be a memorial service announced at a later date. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to a hospice service of the donor’s choice. Sue’s family is deeply appreciative for the help of New Century Hospice in Colorado Springs.
