

He was born in Macomb on October 8, 1947, the son of Lucian Harold and Mildred J. (Savidge) Prather Weisbecker. He married his high school sweetheart, Marlisa G. Proctor on January 27,1966. She survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Toni Abernathie of Pekin; seven grandsons and three great-grand kids whom he adored.
He was preceded in death by his parents and only son, Shawn W. Prather; two brothers, Harold (Juanita) Prather of Metamora, IL and Richard (Sue) Prather of Pekin, IL.
He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1974. During his service, he was an Electronics Technician aboard the USS Puget Sound, USS IWO Jima and USS Hugh Pervis. Following his service, Wayne was employed by the US Postal Service. His last position for the post office was as Postmaster General for Manito, IL.
He dedicated his life to his family, prioritizing their well-being above all else. His love for his wife and family was his driving force, and he took pride in the unit they formed together. Family time was the most precious to him. He was very proud of his family.
He enjoyed going to auctions and buying and collecting antiques items.
He was very proud of his fully restored 1955 Ford which was a replica of his original first car. It took him 20 years to get the time and money to finish but he did it!
His memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, where visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Joseph Stewart will officiate. Military rites will be accorded by the United States Navy and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
