I was a student at Komensky back in the 70's when Mr. Calvert was principal there. From what I remember, he was the kind of person that knew how to stay on the ball. He was polite and well spoken. His hair cut was definitely military!

Mr cakvert will be truly missed he was one forgetable teacher and principal at komensky school from my 3rd grade till graduation 1969 he was always there for you and kind and considerate to all thoughts and prayers

On behalf of the Class of 1963 from Komensky we send our deepest sympathies.

Mr. Calvert was such a nice man. I only went to school at Komensky for 7th and 8th grade, but got to know him pretty well. I'd like to extend my condolences to his family. I'm sure he will be greatly missed.

Mr.Calvert was a caring Principal who listened to students concerns and was fair when it came to discipline. I learned alot from him that has carried into my personal life and for that I deeply appreciate that experience. This world lost a class act!


I was a student at Komensky school. I graduated in 1965. I well remember Mr. Calvert. A great principal and a great man. My condolences to his family.  

Mr. Calvert was my Principal when I attended Komensky School. I graduated in 1963. I remember him coming and speaking to our class from time to time.  He was stern but fair. I respected his authority, and I believe everyone else did, too.

Mr. Calvert was my principal  at Komensky from 1966-1973. He had Susan Schmoeller and I be the first flag raisers that were girls. We had to practice with Mr. Calvert putting the flag at half staff when President Johnson died. He also let me be the first girl to run the projector in the AV room. I guess he was progressive in that way. He ran a disciplined school and we knew how to behave, I appreciate that. Thoughts and prayers to his family

To the family and friends, except my deepest sympathy. I remember him as a fair professional principal who cared about all the kids at the school. He will be missed by all his students 

I was sent to Principal Calvert's office for being defiant: I refused to remove my headband which I was wearing Native American/hippie style in turbulent 1968. After much civil imploring, he gave up and called my mom. Well that was that. But he wasn't smug or unkind. Thinking about it now, he was a bit amused, but more important I think he was respectful. I may have had to lose the headband, but Principal Calvert let me keep my dignity. I'd say he was a good teacher, but really he was just a good person. 

William Calvert was a gentle person and very kind.  He visited our classrooms, made announcements, and gave us little talks.  He always set the bar high, knowing we would rise to meet it.  

When he wanted to make a point, he did it with humor.  He and our teachers would exchange pleasantries and chuckle and joke around.

I remember when bell-bottoms became the new style--he came in and said he had nothing against them, but not to let the bottoms drag on the ground (what we'd call grunge today).

He was a hero and a role model to us.  We loved and will miss him.

I attended Komensky School from 1973-1978. Mr Calvert was principal then. Needless to say, our class visited his office quite often. He was very stern, but had the children's futures always in mind. I'm sorry to hear of his passing. I would like to send condolences especially to his son William, wife Susan and his grand daughter Kristen that my family also knows. God bless!

My condolences on the lost of Mr.Calvert. He was my principle from 2nd thorough 8th grades (1971) He was an amazing man Kind, smart, and always there for his "kids"  RIP Mr Calvert.  I'm happy to know you had a wonderful long life.
