

Born October 22, 1926 in Rock Hill, Missouri to Edwin and Hazel (Hassett) Calvert, he married Joy Kathryn Larsen on March 29, 1947 in Alton, Illinois. She survives.
Also surviving are four children, Dr. Nels E. (Linda) Calvert of Pekin, Susan A. Troxell of Pekin, William J. (Susan) Calvert of Berwyn and James A. (Sheryl) Calvert of Rumson, New Jersey; seven grandchildren, Nels M. Calvert of Pekin, Kyle (Amanda) Calvert of Bloomington, Indiana, Shannon (Kevin) Osuchowski of Bolingbrook, Whitney (Michael Stower) Calvert of Peoria, Kristen (Bruno Carvallo) Calvert of Hanover Park, Justin (Angie) Calvert of Tinon Falls, NJ and Carly (Craig Cannon) Calvert of Rumson, NJ and four great-grandchildren, Kyleigh, Adaline, Sophia and Nicky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joel Richard Calvert; one grandson, Jeffrey T. Calvert and two brothers, Calvin Calvert and Howard Calvert.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Mr. Calvert graduated from Shurtleff College in Alton with his Bachelor’s Degree and from Loyola University with his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration.
He retired from Berwyn School District 100 in 1984 after 31 years of service, where he was first a teacher and then spent 24 years as principal of Jan Amos Komensky School.
Mr. Calvert was an avid fisherman. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed time traveling to Canada fishing in the summer, wintering in Florida and keeping in touch with family and grandkids in between. They later resided in Punta Gorda, Florida full time for more than 18 years before moving to Hopedale in 2014.
He was of the Presbyterian faith.
His graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Oakridge Cemetery in Hillside. Pastor Julie Boleyn will officiate. Visitation will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
