

Born October 27, 1925 in Keokuk, Iowa to Howard W. and Marie (Gibson) Higham, he married Dorothy Vaughn in 1948. She died September 22, 1964 in Peoria. He later married Nancy Higginbotham on February 24, 1968 in Creve Coeur. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Timothy (Susan) Higham of Dekalb, Kim (Kathy) Higham of Pekin and Todd (Annette) Higham of Allen, Texas; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Sheila) Higham of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by three sisters.
William had worked at Caterpillar, Inc. as a tool maker, retiring in 1969 after over 40 years of service.
He had served his country in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was a Torpedo Mate 2nd Class, serving in the south Pacific, Panama Canal, Midway, Phillipines, South China Sea, Japan and the Galapagos Islands.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #1234 in Creve Coeur and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Bartonville Post #3883.
William loved woodworking, golfing, fishing and camping.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. Rev. John Plunkett will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
