

William was born April 21, 1920 in Elmgrove Township, the son of William Jr. and Clara Vaupel Long. He married Hildred A Johnson on October 22, 1949. She preceded him in death on October 29, 2000.
William is also preceded by his parents and one son, Donald Martin, one sister Edith, and two brothers, Richard and Dale.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Veva Martin of Pekin; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Long of Pekin and Cora Long of Greeley, CO; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and many cousins and nieces and nephews.
He was a sheet metal machinist for Corn Products for 42 years, retiring in 1981. William is a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church serving on many elected committees.
He was a past president of OCAW, and Vice President of WCI Labor Council for 37 years. He also served on the Pekin Park Playground and Recreation Board, and the Pekin United Way.
William is veteran of World War II, serving for four years in the US Army Air Force. He received five combat stars. William was a member of VFW Post 1232.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church . Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Pastor Daniel Bishop will officiate.
Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St John’s Lutheran Church.
