

She was born November 27, 1932 in Jerseyville to John A. and Luella (Phipps) Powderly.
She married Hubert Hughes on March 29, 1952 at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville. Their marriage spanned almost 46 years before his death on February 16, 1998.
She attended St. Francis Grade School and graduated in 1950 from Jerseyville Community High School.
She and Hubert lived in Jerseyville until the late 1960s, moving first to Springfield and then to Pekin, where they resided until she returned to Jerseyville in 2000.
She retired in May 1997 after 25 years of employment at Pekin Insurance Company. At the time of her retirement, she held the position of payroll administrator.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Rona (Mark) Rassi and Linda (Terry) Boudreaux, both of Ft. Myers, Florida; 1 son, Bob (Karen) Hughes of Manito; 4 grandchildren, Kara Sullivan of Ft. Myers, Florida, Andrea Rassi, and Steven Rassi, both of Ft. Myers, and Ryan Hughes of Manito; 1 sister, JoAnn (Ken) Ashford of Jerseyville; and 1 brother, Clyde Powderly of Columbia, Missouri.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a half-brother, Ted Powderly; 2 sisters, Catherine Powers and Mary Lee Chapman; and her dear companion, Duane Simms of Jerseyville in 2004.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, February 15, 2007at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2007at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
