

She was born in Barletta, Italy on July 22, 1935. She attended high school in Florence and lived in Italy until 1953. In the summer of 1952, Tonie transferred to University in Leeds, UK to study English. In 1954, she moved to Chattanooga, TN to attend college, transferred to Birmingham Southern College in 1956 and received a BA in Spanish with a Minor in French and Social Studies in 1958. She was fluent in four languages.
In 1960, Tonie began working at UAB in various positions, then UAB School of Medicine as Assistant to the Chairman and ended her career at UAB as Director of Academic Programs in 1969 where she retired in 1992. She lived in several different states, such as Tennessee, Maryland, and UNC at Chapel Hill North Carolina before re-settling in Birmingham.
On October 20, 1981, Tonie married William Eugene "Gene" Bone. They enjoyed 44 wonderful years together, living in Riverchase, Forest Park, and Inverness for 25 years before their move to Galleria Woods.
She was a trustee for Opera Birmingham, a member of Birmingham Southern Arts Council, and President of the Birmingham Opera Guild. She was deeply passionate about opera and the Birmingham Opera Guild.
Tonie was survived by her son, Frank Hill and his wife, Melba Santos of Gig Harbour, WA, her son, Mark Hill and his wife, Donna Hill, grandchildren, Erin, Nathan, and Brittany, and great-grandson, Vance.
