Barbara Pemberton

Barbara Joyce Pemberton, age 83 of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025. She was born to Henry Kuhne Jr. and Ludie Mae Fuller on September 17, 1941. Barbara grew up in Birmingham, where she attended Shades Valley High School, class of 1961. On October 19, 1973, she married the love of her life, Ray Knox Pemberton, and they have shared 51 blessed years together.

Barbara had a successful career as a buyer with Atlantic Research Corporation in Gainesville, VA. Ray and Barbara then moved to Birmingham, where she went to work for Brookwood Hospital. Barbara retired after 34 years as a buyer.

Barbara was a faithful member of Lakeside Baptist Church for 24 years, where she enjoyed looking forward to cooking meals for her church family. She was also a charter member of Chapel In The Pines Presbyterian Church in Hoover, AL. Ray and Barbara spent 11-plus years together proudly serving with the Singles Ministries at Briarwood Church. She was a loving and caring person to all who knew her. Barbara loved caring for her cats and spending time with her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Kuhne Jr. and Ludie Mae Kuhne; a niece, Barbara Cannady Long.

Barbara leaves behind her loving husband, Ray Knox Pemberton; sister, Patricia (Patsy) Kuhne Long (Ben); niece, Cheryl Denise McCoy (Walter).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Lakeside Baptist Church in her memory.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with a service to follow in the chapel at 2:30. A committal service will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Dr. Richard Trader will be officiating the service. Music by Kyle Pemberton.

Pallbearers will be Ben Long, John Wheeler, Ronnie Threat, Joel Howell, Bobby Wright, and George Hodges.
