Ben is survived by his daughter Lynne Reid Smitherman (Michael), grandchildren
Brittany Smitherman, Tyler Smitherman and Dustin Smitherman and his many
church family members from Cahaba Heights Church of Christ. He was preceded
in death by his loving wife, Carolyn McCollough Reid.
He graduated from West End High School in 1947 where he held the State of
Alabama Tennis title for the years of 1945 and 1946, he graduated from Samford
University with an accounting degree and received his law degree from
Birmingham School of Law. Ben bravely served his country in the Navy during the
Korean War. He was self-employed until 2003 as an accountant in Vestavia.
A graveside service will be held on December 18, 2018 at 11:30 AM at Southern
Heritage Cemetery in Pelham.
In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to Cahaba Heights Church of
Christ in his honor.
