Bernard Calvin "Benny" York was a loving husband and father who passed away peacefully at home early Saturday morning, December 14, 2019. He was 88 years old, born as the only child to Calvin and Thelma York in Carbon Hill, Alabama. He attended Phillips High School and was a graduate of Howard College where he received his B.S. degree in pharmacy. He followed in his father's footsteps as a pharmacist and owner of York Pharmacy for 64 years. His customers were his second family that he treated with respect and kindness. Benny never met a stranger and would always leave you smiling by some story or joke he would tell. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years JoAnn W. York, children Joseph York and Janey Harless, daughter-in-law Marcia D. York, grandchildren Emily Parker, Adam York (Tera), and Wesley Harless, and great-grandchildren Jackson Otwell, Emma Parker, Cody Parker, York Harless, Perry Harless, Ramsay Harless and Brody Mitchell.
We are at peace knowing he will be celebrating in heaven with the One we all celebrate this Holiday Season. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
