

Betty was born in Savannah, Georgia on May 2, 1946 to the late Alma Reta and Paul Jackson Gibbs. She attended Savannah High School then furthered her education with a nursing degree from Memorial Hospital of Chatham County School of Nursing. She married George Monroe Hill at South Gardens Baptist Church in Savannah, GA on August 31, 1968. Their union was blessed with 2 children.
Betty was an active member of the Baptist church for most of her life. She had an appreciation of all things beautiful that was evident by her many collectibles and her love of flowers, art, and music. She had a green thumb like no other, was a talented artist, and loved playing hymns on the organ and piano in her younger days. Betty loved animals- the Hill home was always full of multiple dogs and cats at any given time. In her later years she enjoyed watching the birds in her garden.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, her son Michael, and her brother George Thomas Gibbs. She is survived by her daughter Michelle (Bryan Hale) and her 7 beloved grandchildren; George, Ben, and Emma Hill, and Glen, Gibbs, Graham, and George Hale. Also left to cherish her memory is her brother Paul Gibbs and her nephews- Tommy (Lori), Johnnie (Kim), Haynes, Jack (Michelle),along with several cousins, aunts and uncles. She also leaves behind several cherished friends that were instrumental in helping her navigate these last few years.
The family welcomes visitors beginning at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 19 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home, with a service to follow at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
