

She was born on April 5, 1930, in Alamance County, North Carolina to the late Loy Roberson and Joy Camelia McBane. Betty is also preceded in death by her first husband of over 47 years, John J. Schopp III; two sons, John J. Schopp IV; and Daniel Wright Schopp; and her sister, Roxie Overman.
She attended Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina and went on to become Senior Vice President of Golddome Credit and Mortgage Corporation. Betty was an avid and accomplished Bridge player. She enjoyed spending fall Saturdays tailgating for Alabama football games, watching her sons play baseball, spending time with her grandchildren, and traveling. Betty was a member of Vestavia Hills Methodist Church.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 18 years, Jim A. Thompson; her son, James Forrest Schopp and his wife, Barbara B. Schopp; grandchildren, Melanie Schopp; Marian Schopp Howington; Justin Schopp; Jacob Schopp; James Daniel Schopp; Joseph Schopp; Joshua Schopp; and Callie Schopp; great-grandchildren, Jalynn Schopp; Meredith Howington; Caroline Howington; and James Hudson Howington. She is also survived by her sister, Gerry LeBron daughter-in-law, Robyn Miller Schopp; niece, Bonnie Hannah; and nephews, Richard Hudson; Chris Hudson; and Jason Leonard; along with her Stepchildren, Mark Lee Thompson (Alexis) and their children Ragan Leigh and Payne Teague; and James Scott Thompson (Sistina) and their children Jack, Nick and Arrington Nichole.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Betty’s loving caretakers of two years, who are now part of their extended family, Pat Kinnell; Vekeya Kinnell; Barbara White; Keairre Parker; Irene Skinner; and Latisha Catlin.
A graveside service will be held at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 11:00 am.
