Betty Joyce Waters

Mrs. Betty Joyce Waters of Birmingham, AL, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 5, 2026 at the age of 88. She was the third child born of four and only daughter to Frank and Lottie Moody in Centerville, AL on April 15, 1937.

She graduated from Calera High School and worked at Southern Bell Telephone Company as an operator - spending her earnings on clothes! She met and married Elvin “Buddy” Waters in 1956. When God blessed them with children, Joyce stayed at home to care for them and was a wonderful homemaker.

Joyce was introduced to Jesus at Central Park Baptist Church and her whole family as well. Joyce helped in children areas across the many church’s ministries and in the 80’s and 90’s was the Children’s Coordinator. She had a heart for teaching preschoolers and children about God’s love for them and their families. When Buddy and Joyce moved to Monroe, NC they found a church and continued to serve as needed. Joyce loved listening and singing Christian Music. When Joyce retired she loved sewing, decorating, and traveling across North America especially when her grandchildren came along.

Joyce was preceeded in death by her husband, Buddy, after 64 years of marriage and her son Michael Wayne Waters (Pineville, NC). Survivors include brother Freddie Moody (Columbiana), children Carol Waters Walker (husband Mike), Larry J. Waters (wife Karen), & Mike Waters (widow Ann). Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren: Melisaa and Alex Gray son Winston, Dr. Lydia and Jesse Pena daughter Maya, Corey Waters, Caleb and Erica Waters, Cody and Leanna Waters, Kayla and Ryan Kailey daughter Caroline.

A brief service will be held at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL at the Pavilion on March 20, 2026 at 11:00 am with Brian Hinton officiating.
