The gravesite committal service for William and Beverly will be Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 11:45 a.m. at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
William was a devoted husband, beloved father, cherished grandfather, and faithful servant of God. A life well-lived, he leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and service that has touched countless lives.
He was married for 54 years to Beverly. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and love, raising five children and joyfully welcoming 26 grandchildren into their hearts. In recent years, William and Beverly made their home in Hoover, Alabama, though their life together began in Tuscaloosa, where they raised their family and made an indelible mark on the community they loved so dearly.
William was an alumnus of the University of Alabama, where he earned both his undergraduate and doctoral degrees. As a member of the Crimson Tide football team under Coach Bear Bryant, he embodied discipline, teamwork, and an unwavering sense of commitment, qualities that defined his character and guided him throughout his life.
Answering a higher calling, William dedicated his life to ministry as a pastor, counselor, and teacher. He did post graduate work at Birmingham Theological Seminary and later taught courses in Biblical Counseling at BTS. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, he devoted his career to helping others cultivate healthy relationships, with themselves, with God, and with those around them.
William was the first Director of what is now known as Tuscaloosa Pastor’s Network, an organization dedicated to uniting churches across racial and denominational lines to serve the community through outreach. His efforts built bridges of faith and inspired many churches and individuals to embrace unity and service in the body of Christ. His legacy continues through the leadership of Fred Schuckert, who carries on the mission William began.
A man of deep wisdom, faith, and compassion, William had a gift for making everyone feel seen and loved. His family was the center of his world, and his grandchildren brought him immense joy.
Beverly’s life was centered on faith, family, and a commitment to serving her church and community. She grew up in Centreville, Alabama, and attended Samford University, where she majored in music and was honored as Miss Samford. She later pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Alabama.
Beverly was a partner in William’s ministry work, contributing to marriage enrichment through Dynamic Marriage courses and JH Outback weekends. She helped William shape the early vision of what is now the Tuscaloosa Pastors Network.
Beverly had a deep passion for her family and viewed nurturing those relationships as her most important calling. Her grandchildren called her "Nana." Many days, she could be found playing games, reading, or singing to her grandchildren. She had a beautiful voice – always humming a tune or singing a song. One of her favorite songs to sing was "Blue Skies" by Irving Berlin.
Beverly’s life will be remembered for her passion for her family, her faith, and the love she showed to all who knew her.
William and Beverly are survived by their five children, Heather Larson (Gary), Scott Scroggins (Anna), Valori Clemens (Paul), Will Scroggins (Caroline), and Jesse Scroggins (Hannah); 26 grandchildren; William’s siblings, James, Robert, and Claire; and Beverly's siblings, Olon Belcher, Otha Belcher, Jan Queen, and Brent Belcher.
Memorial donations may be made in honor and memory of William and Beverly Scroggins and may be sent to:
• Tuscaloosa Pastor Network, continuing his mission of hope and unity under Fred Schuckert's leadership.
• World Outreach Ministries, to support his grandson Job Franklin Scroggins, who is serving as a missionary pilot with Wycliffe Bible Translators.
• JH Outback ministry: Weekend events that are life-changing experiences that help people strengthen their most important relationships.
We are grateful that God is carrying out William and Beverly's legacies through these ministries. Thank you for your love and support during this time.
